SKATE DOWN UNDER - A FIRST FOR NSW

The staging of Skate Down Under in Sydney in August will be a first for NSW, as all previous ISU internationals have been staged in Queensland.

Scheduled for 20-22 August, Skate Down Under will offer events in Novice Junior and Senior Singles and for Junior and Senior in Dance and Pairs.

Originally planned for Brisbane, NSW Ice Skating Association offered to put the event on when Queensland backed out in May. While it is very short notice, NSWISA is working hard to make the event a reality.

More information as it comes to hand.

NEW LOOK BOARD FOR ISA

A "new look" Board of Ice Skating Australia was elected at the ISA Annual General Meeting in Sydney on 27 April.

New faces include Victoria's Wendy Meik who takes on the role of Treasurer and WA's Kylie Yacopetti who joins NSW's Debbie Noyes on the Board.

Victoria's Cathy Taylor was re-elected as president.

WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS ... IT'S ALL GOOD NEWS!

Congratulations to Brooklee Han and David Kranjec on their performances at the World Junior Figure Skating Championships. They both qualified through to the final - David finishing in 24th place and Brooklee 16th.

Great news for Australia as now Junior Men will have 5 JGP Events and Junior Ladies will have 6 JGP events for the coming season.

AUSSIE SKATE RELOCATED TO LIVERPOOL

The NSW Ice Skating Association advises that the Aussie Skate which was scheduled for Canterbury Ice Rink on Sunday 17th March has been relocated to the Liverpool Ice Rink on the same day. The Aussie Skate will still run from 3.30pm - 6.30pm. Please check out the NSWISA website (www.nswisa.com) for any further updates.

Canterbury Olympic Ice Rink is expected to be closed for five to six weeks.

VALE NANCY BURLEY

It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of former Olympic and World Championship skater, Nancy Burley. She was 82 years old. She passed away in Pindara Hospital on the Gold Coast surrounded by her family.

Nancy was born Nancy Hallam on 8th March 1930.

She was the matriarch of one of Australia's skating's great families. Her husband Pat was an ice rink developer and operator of rinks across the Australian eastern seaboard - in Victoria, NSW and in Queensland.

AN EXCITING END TO A VERY BUSY YEAR

As 2012 draws to a close, our international representatives have been representing australia around the world - with some very good results.

US based Brooklee Han has recorded some very solid scores and placings in recent months, placing in Junior events 8/25 in Lake Placid (JGP), 12/30 in Istanbul (JGP). in Senior events, she was also a standout, with an 8/22 finish at Nebelhorn Trophy in Germany and a noteworthy 3rd place in a field of 16 skaters at Merano Cup, Italy. Han has quaified to Four Continents in February and the World zJunior Championships in February-March.
